Hori Wireless Lite - Thoughts, mods and fixes

Finally managed to pick up one of these things. I have the wired one previously, but was just waiting for a good deal on the wireless version to pick up. It's the perfect size for me to for 2D platformers (in my case, the Megaman series). A few issues:

  1. Battery is kaput, wont charge (confirmed 0.04A when plugged in)
  2. Still don't like the thumbsticks. These are better than the horrid plastic ones on the wired version as they now have rubber on them, but they are flat, and the edge is too sharp.
  3. Stupid L1 button is not responsive (hopefully it just needs a clean)

1. Battery Replacement:

Managed to keep enough of the label intact to read the specs of the battery: 3.7 v 550mah li-po battery 602540. The cheapest I could find was $16 from Amazon.

Thank goodness the picture helped me read the text.

The connector it came with was the wrong type, but a few minutes of soldering and stealing the connected from the old battery solved that.

Tadaa!

2. Thumbstick replacement

Thankfully, like the wired version, these sticks are compatible with the PS2 analog sticks. I still had a few left over, so the swap was easy.

3. L1 Button fix.

This was thankfully easy. All it needed was just an alcohol swab. My previous Hori Mini's L1 contact pad was completely borked. So I had to slice one from a broken Xbox controller pad, slide the original pad off and glue the new pad in place. Shaving a piece of rubber was not fun at all, but it restored the responsiveness.

Simple Mod and repairs complete
